Gutter Maintenance Schedule for Salt Lake County

We recommend gutter cleaning twice per year: in late spring after the last of the cottonwood seeds have fallen, and in late fall after the leaves are down. Homes near mature trees may need additional cleanings during heavy leaf-drop periods.

Cottonwood seeds are particularly problematic for Salt Lake County gutters. They mat together when wet and can form a solid plug that blocks the downspout completely. Spring cleaning is essential to remove this debris before summer thunderstorms arrive.

During each cleaning, we inspect the gutter joints, end caps, and downspout connections for leaks or separation. Minor repairs like resealing a leaky joint or reattaching a loose downspout are included in the cleaning visit.

  • Spring cleaning after cottonwood seed drop — typically late May to early June
  • Fall cleaning after leaf drop — typically November after most trees are bare
  • Additional cleanings recommended for homes near mature deciduous trees
  • Inspection and minor repair included with every cleaning visit
